In Late May 2005 Christopher Furr, from First Christian Church in Wilmington NC, traveled to South Africa on a Summer Seminar. Mr. Furr is going to college at the Duke Divinity school. Before he left Chris Swan, assistant Scoutmaster, gave Mr. Furr several BSA Cape Fear Council patches and asked him to see if he could trade with other Boy Scouts in South Africa. In late August, he returned with an envelope full of patches from South Africa and a neckerchief from South Africa. Below are scans of what was received and descriptions we were given by the District Commissioner in South Africa. His contact information is at the bottom of this page. The South African Scout Association's website is www.scouting.org.za, it will give you at lot of information about scouting in South Africa, together with some of our publications.
I want to thank Mr. Furr for the time in effort he gave in expanding the knowledge of Scouting around the World.

The Wildebeest is the provincial animal for KwaZulu-Natal Area - also called GNU. The KZN 2003 badge above was given to each invested Scout and they wore it on their uniforms for that year. Mr. Thorne has given us enough so that each of the Troop 19 Scouts and Adult leaders can each have one.
