Day 1

7-1-06                                      By Logan Swan

Today has been a troop 19 standard road trip.

Never ending, inconsistent and crazy. On the way to greenbelt, Maryland, we had tow rest stops and a lunch break. When we arrived at the local campgrounds, the troop setup camp and played a few minutes of cards and then went back out for dinner.

Our dinner was a pizza dinner. YUM

It was good.

Shortly after arriving at the campgrounds, we all went tour tents, sleeping for the night ready for tomorrow.

Today is July, 3 2006. We had French toast for breakfast. Then we drove to the metro got on the metro and missed our stop so we got an extra 30 minutes of riding and went into 2 different states.  Then we walked downtown to all of the different exhibits and there were some pretty cool stuff.  Then we rode the metro to the parking lot and went to the store for food came back and cooked supper. Played capture the flag.

Day 4

7-4-06                                      By Brendan Carr

Ok, so we started this day like everyday so far, meaning Woody banging on our tents at about 6:45. Getting up after the undeniable and irresistible wakeup call, Logan and Josh fixed us all a delicious breakfast of pancakes and bacon…….with a little help from Mr. Mason of course. Kevin and id did latrine duty while Shawn and wade had campsite cleanup.

Once everything had been put away, we drove down to the metro again so we could catch our ride. We didn’t skip our stop this time, but the metro did stop in the middle of the tunnels a few times.  While on our first leg Logan made some new friends with a lady who asked him if she could have a picture of him with this cut monkey doll that she had.  Being the ladies man that he is, Logan accepted and Mr. Carrie got a picture as well (we are soooooooo going to put that on the website).

Our first stop was the Pentagon.  We weren’t’ allowed to go in it or around half of it, but we did get to see the beginnings of the restructured part from a distance. We also read about a memorial that they are constructing for the people that lost their lives at the pentagon crash on 9/11.  Unfortunately we were not allowed to take pictures.

Net we took the metro to Arlington cemetery and hiked around this massive place for 2.5 hours. Among these graves was that of JFK.  We ended this tour with the ceremony of the unknown solder, conducted by the U.S. Army

Afterwards we decided to take a swim so we headed over to Fort Myer, the army station right next to the cemetery.  First we went to the PX and bought swimsuits, then headed over to the 50 meter pool and goofed off for awhile ending with us all being a little pink.  The adults decided to play it safe and stayed in the shade of the trees the whole time.

Dinner was over at the cafeteria on the base; this pretty much included hamburgers, fries, soda, potatoes, rice and water, which we used to refill our bottle.

Following another long hike we took the metro so we could go to the Iwo Jima memorial.  On the kike we got to see some of the damage caused by the thunderstorm which had stranded us o the front porch of a church.  At the memorial we took pictures then waited for the fireworks to begin, this was over 2 hours, meaning that our butts were really sore after that  (ouch).  Logan again made some lady friends just talking about scouts.  Anyway the fireworks started out weak a I was thinking.  Man I could do this in my backyard; but then they brought out the big stuff and I have to say that it was the best 4th of July fireworks show that I have ever seen or any fireworks show for that matter.  By the end they were throwing everything into it, making multiple big explosions over the Washington monument and the capital building.  When they finished, there was so much smoke that we couldn’t see either of those building.

Once we were finally on the metro, Logan (with much encouragement from Keith and the rest of us) decided to blow kisses at the girls across the track and write a sign on a notebook that said “CALL ME”.  Unfortunately we go the idea that she wasn’t interested. The whole thing was interesting though band by the end we had laughed more then, than we had all week.  Then the metro stop a few times in the tunnels so by the time we got back to camp it was after midnight and then we found out that our tents were completely soaked. Shawn, emit and Richard had to break out a new ten and move some of their stuff so they could sleep comfortably. We ended up going to sleep about 1am.
