How to get there
Summer Camp 2010
Camp Bowers camp site is …. Owl Hollow After
you enter Camp and pass over the bridge.
Camp McNeil is on your left. If
needing to drive into our camp site, just after you pass McNeil, look to your
right and there’s a small dirt road. Our
site is down this dirt road and off to the left. Look for a sign post with an OWL. If you only need to park and walk to the camp
site, then Just as you pass McNeil, park your vehical on the left side of the road and walk
to the camp site. It’s basicly across the road and through a few trees. You should be able to hear or see us.
Leaving First Baptist Activity Center Sunday June 20 @ 12 NOON. We
need to meet at the Activity Center at 11:30 to leave promptly at noon. We have a 2pm check in time at Bowers.
Travel in Class A. Please wear swimming trunks under your Class A uniform. Even if you’ve
done your Swim-Check, the Aquatics Dir. May call for you to repeat.
Medical Forms must be turned into Ms. Beth. If you show up at the Activity
Center and no form has been turned in(or you do not
have it with you), we will not be able to take you to camp!!! At Camp, they check in each scout, no form,
they will not allow the scout to stay!!!
Meds: If a scout is on
daily meds or requires meds, Ms. Tina needs to know. We need to know of any meds being taken.
No Electronics!!! No cell phones, no hand held’s like playstation. You can
have them on the drive up and back but they must remain in the vehicle while in
camp.
Eat lunch before arriving at the Activity Center.
Dinner is provided by Camp Bowers.
Have all packable gear inside a foot-locker type container. This
needs to be about the size of a foot-locker, heavy duty plastic. Scout may either have a lock on it or not but
he is responsible for his key. (if the key gets lost….)
Things to pack: shorts, t-shirts,
underwear, swim trunks, rain coat, camp shoes or shower shoes, sleeping bag or
sheet, pillow, toothbrush/paste, soap for shower, bath towel, comb, flashlight (headlamp is
best), extra batteries for flashlight, Scout Handbook, pen & small notebook,
hiking shoes, insect spray!!!, suntan lotion, body powder (some scouts have a
problem with chafing, some don’t), personal water bottle, day pack or waist
pack (helps to carry any gear around with scout like his flashlight & water
bottle).
Optional Gear. Watch, camera, laundry bag,
Bible, small first aid kit, books, fishing gear, money. If a scout brings money, he is responsible
for it. Adults will NOT be keeping any
money for scouts. If you have some other optional gear you’d like to take,
please see either Ms. Beth or Ms. Tina to get it approved.
Arriving at Camp: We have to check in. We
should be able to go to our campsite first, drop off the trailer and all
gear. We will NOT be setting up camp at
this time, only dropping off the gear.
Camp set up will be after we check in.
If we have extra Adults (parents) that have helped with the drive up to
camp, they can stay at the camp site and help get things organized. Or they can return home. All Scouts & Leaders staying will need to
go to the “check-in” point as soon as they have dropped off their gear.
Merit Badges: Some merit badges will require extra gear
that you’ll need to bring from home. Swimming:
long pants & long sleeve shirt.
These need to be extra large so that the scout can have regular swim
trucks under the long pants. Scout will
be required to remove the pants and shirt while swimming and it’s easier this
way. COPE course: Extra $25 fee and long pants and good shoes,
like boots. LeatherWork & Basket
weaving: please try to go by the
Scout Shop before your scout goes to Summer Camp and buy the cheapest Leather
kit and Basket kit. Archery: this
kit is sold at camp really cheap. Just
about all of the scouts going this year are taking First Year Camper, Swimming,
LeatherWork, Basket weaving and Archery so if you can
pre-buy the Leather & Basket weaving kits before the scout goes to
camp. It will assure that the scout has
his kit.
Wednesday Night: Parents night is Wednesday. You need to be at our camp site by 5:30pm
(you can arrive as early as you like).
The dinner meal is being worked out by Mr. Bobby and Mr. Chuck. Ms. Becky Stone is the contact for extra
items we need to bring. stonenurse05@aol.com
After dinner there’s Scout Campfire.
Emergencies!! Ms.
Beth’s phone # 910-352-0356, hers works at the Camp!!! Leave message if you don’t get an
answer. You will get a call back.
Returning: We’ll pack up and be on the road back to the
Activity Center between 11am-12noon Saturday 26th. All scouts will call their parents when we’re
about 20 minutes from the Activity Center.
